GLOBAL ORPHAN CARE
Transforming lives of children and families around the world.
At Hope’s Promise, we want the foundation of every child’s story to be family.

Family is God’s design for every child
God designed families as the best place for children to grow and thrive. Family provides a foundation of love, security, and support. It is a place for mending wounded hearts and showing a child that they are valuable, worthy, and belong.
OUR UNIQUE MODEL OF CARE
We place and support orphaned and vulnerable children with loving families – with relatives or non-relative caregivers – around the world.
Our approach to global orphan care is built on four foundational pillars.
Emotional Healing
Providing stability and love through family connections
Cultural Preservation
Keeping children within their own communities and countries
Long-Term Support
Embedding sustainable care in local churches and community organizations
Holistic Development
Nurturing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual growth of children and families
A new way to make a difference
Child Sponsorship Re-Imagined
Research reveals that traditional child sponsorship models, in which a child forms a relationship with a distant donor, can sometimes unintentionally hinder an orphaned child’s ability to bond with their own caregivers. Hope’s Promise takes a different approach: an intentional, behind-the-scenes investment that strengthens families to provide lasting care, without shifting a child’s focus to an external sponsor.
Traditional Child Sponsorship | Hope's Promise Model | |
---|---|---|
Support for the child | Direct financial aid from a distant donor | Administered through partnership with local church |
Who gets the credit | Donor’s role and involvement take center stage | Child credits provision to their parents and local community |
Emotional attachment | Child may form emotional dependence on donor | Strengthens trust and attachment within the family |
Cultural connection | Distracts a child from the value of their own culture | Emphasizes importance of child’s own culture and community |
Holistic development | Focuses only on child’s immediate needs (education, food, healthcare) | Promotes physical, emotional, social, and spiritual wellbeing of child and family |
Community investment | Limited integration with local churches and organizations | Embedded in local churches and community networks |

Where We Serve

Kenya
Most of Hope’s Promise Kenya’s children started their lives in Mathare Valley, where half a million people subsist in six square miles of abject poverty and orphaned children constitute a high proportion of the population.

Vietnam
Due to economic reforms, Vietnam has quickly developed from one of the poorest countries in the world to a low-middle income country. However, ethnic minority tribes, and especially orphaned children, often struggle to survive in remote mountainous areas, located far from basic services such as medical care.

Nepal
In Nepal, one of the least developed nations in the world, many children lose their parents to death or incapacitation due to the ravages of poverty. Orphans in Nepal are especially vulnerable to child labor, trafficking, and child marriage.

Zimbabwe
Over three decades of economic hardship have resulted in over 90% unemployment. Much of the population lives below the poverty line, and about half of children no longer attend school.

Frequently Asked Questions
KENYA: Most of Hope’s Promise Kenya’s children started their lives in Mathare Valley, where half a million people subsist in six square miles of abject poverty. Orphaned children, especially vulnerable to abuse, neglect, starvation, inadequate sanitation, lack of education, illness, and hopelessness, constitute a high proportion of the slum’s population.
NEPAL: In Nepal, one of the least developed nations in the world, many children lose their parents to death or incapacitation due to the ravages of poverty. Of Nepal’s total population of 28.5 million, an estimated one million children are orphaned and approximately 25,000 live in orphanages. Orphans in Nepal are especially vulnerable to child labor, trafficking, and child marriage.
VIETNAM: Although living in a middle-income country with a growing economy, Vietnam’s ethnic minority tribes often struggle to survive in remote mountainous areas, located far from basic services such as medical care. Children are more likely to become orphaned, drop out of school to work at very young ages, and less likely to receive adequate adult supervision.
ZIMBABWE: Over three decades of economic hardship have resulted in over 90% unemployment. Much of the population lives below the poverty line, and about half of children no longer attend school.
Hope’s Promise serves children who are single or double orphaned (one or both parents deceased) or who have been abandoned or neglected by one or both birth parents.
We place and support orphaned and vulnerable children in families with biological relatives when possible and non-relatives when needed.
Our kids don’t “age-out.” Hope’s Promise supports each child to grow and flourish in his or her family until they are able to live independently.
Give a one-time gift or become a Family Champion by creating a recurring pledge. Also consider other options on our Get involved page, like going on a Connection Trip to visit one of our international ministries or advocating for Hope’s Promise through your church or business.
You'll receive two comprehensive impact reports each year, keeping you informed about the difference your support is making.
For Hope’s Promise children cared for by non-relatives, your partnership helps with children’s expenses such as food, medicine, clothing, education, and extra-curricular activities, and indirect expenses related to childcare such as rent and utilities for the home, transportation, and a small compensation for the parents.
For Hope’s Promise children cared for by relatives, your partnership assists primarily with education costs and sometimes living and/or emergency expenses as needed. Additionally, our in-country staff connect caregivers to community resources such as economic development projects and counseling to build the family’s capacity.
Hope’s Promise periodically hosts Connection Team trips to the countries where we serve. Come with us to meet the families you are impacting.
