Are you interested in becoming a foster parent? Are you flexible, dependable, tolerant, and open to learning new parenting styles? Then fostering might be right for you! You must be at least 21 years old, able to pass background clearances, and in good physical health.

The process of becoming a certified foster parent includes the following steps:
Attend a Hope’s Promise information meeting
This meeting will give you an opportunity to learn more about the foster care system, explore if foster care is right for you, and get your questions answered.
Attend a pre-application

Learn about the foster care certification process and explore which children might be the right fit for your family. It's a chance for us to get to know each other and see how we can best support your journey.
Submit an application
Complete and submit the standardized Colorado foster parent application.
Attend an orientation
meeting
At the orientation meeting, you'll learn to use your online portal for background checks, licensing paperwork, and home study documents, plus get key information about foster care regulations and Hope's Promise policies.
Complete state-required
pre-certification training
Colorado requires that every prospective foster parent complete 27 hours of pre-certification training in addition to other required training, such as CPR and First Aid.
Complete paperwork and
home study assessment
Hope's Promise uses an online platform for convenient paperwork completion and submission. Upload documents to your personalized portal and track progress easily. Once complete, your caseworker will guide you through the home study process, including three interviews and a home safety inspection.
Become certified
You'll be certified as a Colorado foster parent once you complete three requirements: an approved home study, 27 hours of required training, and CPR/First Aid certification.
