A Thrill of Hope: Two Brothers Find a Family

O Holy Night, the stars are brightly shining…

There’s a reason this carol has moved people for generations. It opens with waiting: a world grown tired, longing for hope. And somewhere tonight, a child is waiting too. Maybe it’s a bed in a group home that isn’t really theirs. Maybe it’s a caseworker’s hallway, everything they own in a trash bag. Maybe it’s a small settlement outside Nairobi, where food and school fees are always just out of reach.

Different children, different continents, different circumstances, but the same quiet weariness. The same waiting to be seen.

Two brothers, alone in a remote village

For almost eight months, X and T, ages 4 and 6, lived alone in a remote village in Vietnam with no one to care for them. Impoverished neighbors, who didn’t have enough to eat themselves, shared food when they could. It was a hopeless situation.

When a local church network heard about the brothers, they reached out to Hope’s Promise for help. We had not planned to welcome more children into the program, but these boys would not survive if someone didn’t step in. So Hope’s Promise said yes.

A 14-hour journey to bring them home

Our Country Coordinator, Kim Anh, and house parents Binh and Ve made a 14-hour journey into a remote mountainous area to bring the boys home to their new family.

Two little boys who were waiting, and wondering if anyone knew they were there, now have parents, a home and a community of people fighting for them. X and T are thriving. They especially love playing with their new brother M, who came from the same village and was placed with this family years ago.

Every child deserves a family

The foundation of everything we do is our belief that every child deserves a family. Not a program. Not a placement. A family that shows up, stays and fights. Sometimes that looks like adoption. Sometimes it looks like foster care, a family opening their home in one of the hardest seasons a child will face. And sometimes it looks like our orphan care program, helping vulnerable children around the world grow up in safe, loving families.

Different stories. Same calling. Same answer, every time, to the child who wonders if anyone is coming: yes.

Will you help us be ready for the next call?

Hope’s Promise could say yes to X and T because faithful partners like you made it possible to be ready when the call came. This Christmas, our goal is to raise $150,000 by December 31, 2026, so hope is within reach the next time a child needs us.

Thanks to a few generous supporters, the first $50,000 donated will be matched dollar for dollar. Your year-end gift will go twice as far.

You can also mail a check to Hope’s Promise, 1585 S. Perry Street, Ste. E, Castle Rock, CO 80104, or become a Family Champion with a monthly gift. Explore more ways to give.

Let the weary world rejoice, for yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
