Nepali kids playing (2)As a seven year old Nepali orphan living in the care of a fifteen year old sister, Sagar had no hope.  His mother died four years ago and his father passed away about a year after her.  Sagar’s sister’s job as a domestic worker secured a roof over their heads, and the house-owner sometimes provided food for the children; but there was no money to send Sagar to school.  Their position in the caste system and economic vulnerability left Sagar’s very survival in question.  But then, in April 2009, House of Hope’s Promise in Nepal opened.  Sagar became one of the first of ten children to come home to loving house-parents.

Unfortunately, Sagar’s crisis is not unusual in Nepal.  According to a recent Unicef report, poverty, disease, and the conflict between Maoist rebels and security forces have left almost one million children orphaned.  Added to their suffering is the widespread cultural belief that orphans somehow brought bad luck which caused their parents’ deaths.

Into this despair, House of Hope’s Promise is bringing the security of family and the hope of Jesus Christ to ten children.
